EDS new feature: API solution (1/34/20)

As the work on modernising the Electronic Declaration System (“EDS”) continues, the State Revenue Service (“SRS”) has launched Application Programming Interface (“API”) from 22 July 2020. This new solution aims to simplify the process companies need to go through when filing tax returns and to ease their administrative burden. This article explores how we can use EDS API.

What is EDS API?

EDS API ensures that data for tax returns, statements and informational reports can be filed with the SRS via a system-to-system transfer online. What this means is that a company’s accounting system is coupled with the EDS and the accounting data is transferred to the EDS, where the user then confirms the data.

The present situation

Using EDS API is voluntary. Currently the accounting system offered by Tildes Jumis has been adapted to the API system. As a result, Tildes Jumis cloud service users can file the following tax returns and informational reports:
  • Excise return on alcoholic drinks;
  • Employer’s report;
  • Statement of rejected remote payments;
  • Report on taxi rides made via website or mobile app;
  • VAT return for tax period;
  • VAT3 – statement of adjustments on intra-Community supplies of goods and services;
  • Journal of taxi meter readings;
  • List of state officers;
  • Report on a cross-border arrangement.
The SRS continues to work on deploying EDS API to ensure that other tax returns, statements and reports can be filed through it.

Where do we begin?

To start using EDS API, the company should approach the person that developed the software for the company’s accounting system and adapt the system to enable data transfer through API.

Once the adaptation is finished, the next step is obtaining an API key the system will use in authentication requests together with the user name and password. To obtain an API key, we need to log into the company’s EDS profile and change the settings. Specifically, in the EDS section “Service Interface API” we need to tick “Allow Use”, giving the user permission to act for the taxpayer. Then we should press the “Create” button and an API key will be generated. The API key and the EDS user name should be entered in the accounting software settings. Once this is done, we can proceed to prepare and file reports via the EDS.

Accounting service providers should be aware that if the API service is to be used for multiple companies, appropriate changes to the EDS profile should be made and an API key obtained for each company separately. Tildes Jumis users can find instructions on how to file a tax return via the API service on Tildes Jumis’ website.
